Squads

The focus of the club is to develop elite athletes who will compete at a County, Regional, National and International Level.

The club welcomes a wide range of swimmers from Learn to Swim, Age Group and Masters.  We however do things differently at the club as we know that the long term development of swimmers is the most important thing to consider when putting swimmers in squads.

All age group (8-21+ years) swimmers will undertake a trial and if accepted they will be placed into the correct squad based on their age.

For swimmers who want to achieve an high level then the we have developed a National Performance Programme for Juniors, Youths and Senior Swimmers.  For more details on this please contact us using the enquiry form on the Home Page.

We do however realise that some swimmers are not able to commit to this much training so the club provides them with the opportunity to train at a high level without pressure to attend a minimum number of sessions. These swimmers can, at any time, (providing there is space) ask to join the National Performance Programme, the head coach will then devise a personal development plan so they can look to achieve the level required to go onto the programme.

2024-25 Development Plans

The club has increased its Squad Training Times so is now in a position to expand its membership so we are looking for swimmers who may be interested in joining the club. Please see the criteria below:

  • Learn to Swim Academy -Aged 4+ -  for all levels

  • Junior Squads (Development and Elite) -Aged 8-12 – Swimmers who are confident in swimming front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke

  • Junior National Performance Transition Squad - Aged 10-12 – Swimmers who have excelled in training and now want to work toward Regional Qualification.

  • Youth Squad -Aged 13-15 – Competent in all four strokes (Front Crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly)

  • Youth National Performance Transition Squad - Aged 13-15 – Swimmers who have excelled in training and now want to work toward Regional Qualification.

  • National Senior Performance, Aged 15+ - Swimmers who are already at a Regional/National Level and have the aptitude to work hard

  • Masters + Squad – 16+ - for former competitive swimmers which can not commit to the full programme but wish to compete at a Regional/National level.

  • Masters Squad – 16+ - for former competitive swimmers or competent swimmers

We offer a variety of squads based on age and ability, the training sessions range from 3-12 sessions a week, these include, strength training, mobility/flexibility, endurance and sprint/power sessions. This provides the opportunity for swimmers to achieve their full potential and for older swimmers to specialise in specific events.

If you are thinking of joining then the main thing we are looking for is enthusiasm and commitment to train. We can teach technique; we can increase stamina and we can improve strength, but it is the swimmer who wants to learn and improve that will succeed; if this is you, then Pentaqua will be able to help you achieve your potential.
